Biftu Gudina is from Jimma in the Agaro region of Ethiopia. A cooperative at altitude with rich and fertile soils, this coop’s coffees are a household name within specialty coffee and a firm favourite year after year for us at Root & Branch. The farmers often only have up to 3 hectares of land and are extremely diligent in only picking cherries when ripe. It’s for this reason they are generally paid around 4x more than more other farmers in the region. This is how you maintain quality and build a name like Biftu Gudina with the reputation that it has. Expect red fruit (strawberry in particular), lemon sorbet, and pleasantly tannic notes of black tea.
