Christmas Coffee 2025
Process: Natural
Notes: Christmas Cake, Vanilla, Toffee
Last Christmas we gave you two cans. This year, to save you from tears, we're giving you something special...
Selemat Natal means Merry Christmas in Indonesian & our first Christmas coffee of 2025 is a beauty from there, by Iwan Putra.
Iwan works at the heart of Atu Lintang in the Takengon district, farming and processing coffee alongside his wife, a local schoolteacher, & their two children. His own farm is small, but his reach is wide: he partners with 440 neighbouring smallholder farmers, buying their cherries and processing them at his wet mill.
Iwan has built out thoughtful infrastructure; drying tents, careful fermentation space, & proper wastewater treatment, to ensure every step respects both the coffee and the land. Cherry selection is incredibly strict here; only the ripest, most vibrant fruit makes the cut. It’s a slower way of working, but it’s how Iwan and his community keep quality exactly where they want it.
Iwan’s processing site sits high on a mountain in Atu Lintang, about an hour from Takengon. These hills are part of one of Sumatra’s most celebrated landscapes for arabica; cool air, steady rainfall, and a long tradition of thoughtful farming.
In the cup you'll get Christmas cake like sweetness and a delicate, smooth, vanilla & toffee finish - a perfect festive treat!
